Plain form +んです
Explanatory form (〜んです)
Plain form + んです explains a reason or background. In speech use んです; in writing use のです. Do not use it for simple facts without context (× 私はミラーなんです).
明日から旅行に行くんです。
どうして遅れたんですか。
バスが来なかったんです。
ちょっと気分が悪いんです。
カラオケは好きじゃないんです。
Plain form +んですが
Softening before a request (〜んですが)
〜んですが introduces what you want to say before a request, invitation, or permission question. When the rest is obvious, it may be left unfinished: お湯が出ないんですが…….
頭が痛いんですが、帰ってもいいですか。
来週友達とスキーに行くんですが、ミラーさんもいっしょに行きませんか。
V-ていただけませんか
Polite request (〜ていただけませんか)
V-ていただけませんか is a more polite request than 〜てください: いい先生を紹介していただけませんか.
レポートを見ていただけませんか。
いい先生を紹介していただけませんか。
疑問詞 + V-たらいいですか
Asking for advice (疑問詞 + V-たら いいですか)
Use a question word + V-たらいいですか when you want advice on what to do: どこで買ったらいいですか. The answer often uses V-たらいいですよ.
国会議事堂を見学したいんですが、どうしたらいいですか。
……直接行ったらいいですよ。平日ならいつでも見学できます。

Topic marking with が-objects (N は 好き/嫌い/上手/下手)
A noun that would take が with 好きです, 嫌いです, 上手です, 下手です can become the topic with は: カラオケは好きじゃないんです.
